How to Choose Cameras with Suitable Output Interfaces

The selection of output interface mainly depends on the type of data you need. If you directly output images to video monitors, cameras with analog output will suffice. For monochrome images, choose cameras with CCIR or RS-170 format output; for color images, select PAL or NTSC format output.
If you need to transmit captured images to a computer, multiple output interfaces are available, which must match the interface of your frame grabber:
- Analog interfaces are still applicable. An image frame grabber is required for A/D signal conversion. This cost-effective combination is the most widely used solution.
- For applications with no extra frame grabber control requirements and high demands on image transmission stability, direct-connected USB2.0 and IEEE1394 (FireWire) interfaces are the most convenient options.
- Camera Link is a digital output standard that requires a dedicated frame grabber. It is widely matched with high-performance area-scan and line-scan cameras. With continuous popularization and optimization, its cost has become much more affordable.
- In addition, some traditional digital interfaces are still in use, such as LVDS and RS644.
